Research Includes Input from Enterprise/IT Services, Professional Services, Marketing Agencies and Product Development Organizations
Cincinnati, May 11 2021: The Resource Management Institute, dedicated to the advancement of resource and workforce management thought leadership, has released the results of its second survey examining the role of the Resource Management Office (RMO). Results show trending data that overall industry adoption of the RMO concept continues to grow. Another important trend is increased adoption of centralization of resource management, an RM best practice and driver of better project and utilization outcomes.
This latest research found the responsibilities of the RMO are evolving but there still remains too much focus on the administrative tasks and not enough focus on the strategic value the Resource Management Office can bring to an enterprise when it comes to supply and demand planning and management, skills development, and employee engagement.
“The creation of a Resource Management Office, an RMI recommended best practice, continues to gain momentum in all four of the project-based domains we surveyed,” said RMI Managing Director Randy Mysliviec. “In the Professional Services/Consulting Services domain, more than two-thirds surveyed currently have a Resource Management Office and, in the Enterprise/IT domain, we are seeing 68% with an RMO, up from 50% in our 2019 research.”
The research survey also revealed a near majority of Professional Services/Consulting Services organizations operating resource management centrally, with a third using a hybrid structure. Enterprise/IT organizations currently lag their Professional Services counterparts with only 36% of those surveyed operating in a centralized model. However, the trend is clearly towards centralization as a prior RMI research survey reported 22% of Enterprise/IT organizations had centralized their resource management approach at that time.
The Resource Management Institute conducts a series of research surveys to help professionals compare and contrast their resource management operations to their peer groups. This unique and resource management specific research information targets the IT services industry overall including Professional/Consulting services, Enterprise/IT services, Product Development, and Marketing Agencies.
