2023 has been a year of both exciting innovations and challenges in the way we manage resources in a time of dynamic change.  For the RMI and its members, we continued to advance the cause and bring the latest in leading practices and innovation for the resource and workforce management discipline. With the promise of a new year on the horizon, the trajectory of resource and workforce management continues to evolve toward a future shaped by optimizing and improving resource management practices to drive efficiency, productivity, and innovation within organizations. A year ago, this newsletter stated that resource management is the long pole in the tent when it comes to overall project performance and efficient utilization of human capital. And where the typical project-based service team spends three-quarters of their budget on people, being good at resource management should be job #1! None of that has changed and good resource management is now the lynchpin for making the most of your human capital-intensive service businesses. Building a durable process that is adaptable to changing market and business conditions is a common objective to every business process, and resource management is no exception! During our Power UP in the fall of 2021 we discussed good change management and continuous improvement best practices to help you keep your RM capabilities fresh and responsive to your business needs. Since the RMI’s start in 2016 we have also learned much about how our members are doing in implementing their RM capabilities and we are pleased to report the industry is making good progress! A recent RMI study confirmed the growing war for talent noting that 95% of companies report finding talent is a challenge with 35% of companies reporting finding talent was difficult to very difficult.
