Latest Resource Management Institute survey reveals organizations lack the support and tools needed to properly forecast and govern resource management processes
Cincinnati, June 12, 2018: The Resource Management Institute, dedicated to the advancement of resource and workforce management thought leadership, has released the results of its latest research on inhibitors to effective resource management. The survey data reveals Professional/Consulting services organizations and Enterprise/IT organizations don’t have the processes, tools and governance they need to properly forecast and meet resource demands as the economy continues to grow and compete for available workers.
The survey collected data on process readiness to properly manage utilization of resources delivering IT solutions for internal IT applications or external consulting clients. The survey results showed 85 percent of organizations struggle to forecast capacity and skills mix needs while more than 60 percent are challenged to govern their resource management processes and manage their inventory of skilled workers.
The survey also collected data on current inhibitors in respondents’ automation tools support for resource management and found more than two-thirds reported their automation tools were inhibiting their resource management performance. And nearly all the participants cited some issue with their automation tools, with almost a quarter indicating plans to replace their current systems with a new PSA/PPM/RPM tool in the near future. Specific data analytics needs were also identified as a significant area for improvement.
“When it comes to resource management effectiveness, process rigor and technology enablement continue to inhibit overall project performance while driving up labor costs,” said RMI Managing Director Randy Mysliviec. “Until fundamental gaps are addressed in areas like forecasting, skills management, governance and technology support, organizations will come up short with the resources and talent needed to deliver IT solutions on-time and cost effectively with consistency. Resource managers need better processes and innovative tools to provide their organizations with the right resources at the right time.”
